Google Launches Chrome For Mac

Google has recently launched the Chrome 66. It’s the latest version of Google Chrome with more than 62+ bugs fixed. Chrome version 66 is supported in Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, and Linux. There are some major changes in the privacy settings, security, and media autoplay behavior in the latest version of Google Chrome. The Audio Autoplay feature was supposed to be rolled out in the 63 version, but they were testing it and finally launched it in the Chrome 66 version. Google was released back in January 2018 where they had added the feature for the audio mute. But that didn’t quite work according to their expectations.

So in the latest version of Chrome 66, it automatically mutes the audio unless you interact with the media content or the page. I personally tried this with YouTube, and yes it’s working perfectly fine. If are watching a video in a tab and suddenly you open a new video in the new tab then it won’t start playing on its own (previously it did). The video will only load and start playing after you interact with the media on that tab. This feature was not available in the previous version of Chrome. Talking about the security, with the new you can now export your passwords and directly import them into any other browsers of your liking. For exporting the passwords head over to Settings - Advanced - Passwords and forms - Manage Passwords - Save Password to export all you saved passwords at one place.

Do note that, you get the export password functionality in both Android and iOS devices. Moreover, Google Chrome now doesn’t trust on the Semantic SSL Certificates because of the failing security concerns on big sites like example.com and test.com. On top of that, there are other minor bug fixes which company is currently working on, and you can check the full changelog of the upcoming bug fixes. All these bugs are rated “high” and “critical” in severity. Other major feature added in the Chrome 66, is the site isolation feature. It helps mitigate the risks from Spectre chip buy from running several pages from different websites and keep your data secure so that it cannot be transferred to other websites.

Moving to the technical aspect, the Chrome 66 has also implemented the CSS Typed Object Model. This will help both developers and the browser by showing CSS typed value for Javascript instead of strings. In simple words, the developer will be able to write more optimized and maintainable piece of code. A good news for is the new Chrome 66 now includes update to the V8 Javascript engine 6.6 version. It includes code caching, background code compilation, and other performance improvements. For the latest and the fastest tech news keep following.

Some of the new features in Chrome 66 include media auto-play changes, the ability to export passwords and several security fixes. One of the biggest features added in Chrome 66 is the auto-playing of content being switched off by default. For example, I immediately noticed that YouTube videos no longer automatically played when I opened those links in new tabs and I switched to those tabs in the latest version of Chrome. Google has been working on ways to provide better control over audio in its browser for a while now.

Last year, that one of the most frequent user concerns is “unexpected media playback,” which consumes data and power along with causing unwanted noise while browsing.
